Welcome To

Air Force Training Base

 Basic Training Family Support Page.

This page will answer most questions that arise.

Lackland Air Force Base is no longer an open installation. People, other than families of basic training graduates, wishing to visit the base will be required to have a sponsor with a valid military ID card.  We cannot support non-sponsored tour or visit requests.

I have not heard from my child.

It might sound funny but no news is good news. Training Instructors have trainees fill out a Visitor Information Package when they arrive. The Training Instructor cannot make the trainee send it to a particular person. If you have not heard from your child check with a friend, girl friend or other relative before you panic. Also within the first week your trainee is given a phone call and as with the address they cannot make them call a particular person so please check with other loved ones before you panic.

Is the flight free and how about lodging?

This might sound funny but many parents assume the price of graduation is a United States Air Force expense and it is not. Please plan ahead of time and  book your own Flights. Lodging and transportation  is at your own expense. There are no on-base Hotels available.

When is graduation?

Graduation is on the Friday of the sixth week of training. The training week begins the first Monday after your trainee arrives. A Visitor Information Package is sent by the trainee.

737th Training Group

The 737th Training Group provides Air Force Basic Military Training for all enlisted people entering the Air Force, Air Force Reserve and Air National Guard, earning Lackland the nickname, "Gateway to the Air Force."
The Air Force receives approximately 35,000 Airmen each year from the 737th Training Group; the number varies with projected requirements.
Following graduation, Airmen go on to technical training at Lackland or elsewhere before their first Air Force assignment. More than seven million Airmen have completed BMT since 1946.
